Rev. Susan Schneider-Adams has a rich ministry background, most recently as Interim Pastor at First Congregational UCC in Anamosa. Prior to that, Susan has served local congregations in California, New York, Wisconsin as pastor, Associate pastor, youth minister, music director, and various Interim settings. She also served as Associate Conference Minister for Youth & Young Adult Ministry in the Wisconsin Conference UCC, and as Chaplain in a nursing home.
Susan and her husband, Matt, moved from Wisconsin to Iowa last summer when he was called to serve as pastor of St. John’s UCC in Clarence. They live in the St. John’s UCC parsonage in Clarence with their big ol’ cat, Beans, and their dog, Rugby. They have two adult children – Andrew & Molly. Andrew got his BA from Carleton College in Northfield, and graduated in May from UW Madison School of Law, and is now an attorney at a law firm in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Andrew lives with his wife, Ashley, in Madison. Molly graduated from UW Madison in December, and is now living in Nashville TN, where she attends Belmont University, pursuing a degree in Occupational Therapy.
Susan grew up in Minnesota, got her BA from St. Olaf College in Northfield MN, and her M.Div. from Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA. She loves good food, wine-tasting, movies, camping, and dancing of any kind. Susan is a certified Zumba and Silver Sneakers instructor, teaching classes in Anamosa and at Rockwell Collins Recreation Center in Cedar Rapids. Sue is passionate about in-spiring all kinds of ‘bodies’ to live fully into who we were created to be – as individual persons, or as the Body of Christ, or as a community. Susan believes we can do that most readily when we eliminate judgement, embrace a healthy sense of humor and humility, and open our minds & hearts to all the possibilities God places in our lives (usually to see and to stretch just beyond where we are right now).
Karen has been providing organ and piano music for worship services in Methodist, Lutheran and UCC settings for at least 55 years (though with some gaps). Her musical tastes are wide; these days she is drawn to the rich southern folk hymn and black spiritual music traditions, what she perceives as true "heart and soul" music.
Choir Director / Keyboardist
"I am the choir director and one of the keyboardists for the Maquoketa United Church of Christ. I began playing organ for the Long Grove Christian church when in high school, sang in their choir, performed with the Augustana College Band and later attended Loras College. At Loras I achieved the American Guild of Organist (AGO) Service Playing certification and teacher certification for music K-12, allowing me to teach for one year. I have been teaching private piano for 25+ years."
"The Maquoketa United Church of Christ has been part of my life since 1982. A parishioner invited me to play the pipe organ at the church and the rest is history. I have been singing and playing service music on the organ and piano since then. I have enjoyed being choir director since 2009."
